Next week students will present their research and presentations related to their chosen hero. They'll be working to convince a committee from CNN to choose their hero as this year's LEGENDARY HERO OF THE YEAR...check out the gallery below from our work day today that included a very famous snack food :)!
Fourth grade Challenge students are busy creating research based presentations related to notable heroes from all walks of like. Today we finished our research, began organizing that information into powerpoints, and started writing persuasive speeches related to these remarkable leaders! Check out the gallery from our work session today:
Parents and Students,
Rosalynn Carter, wife of past President Jimmy Carter, once said "A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they don't necessarily want to go, but ought to be." This quote can best be described as an open invitation for others to use their ability, talent, skills and character to discover the unknown and make life better for future generations.
Our study unit for this quarter of Challenge, “Purpose Driven Lives”, will guide and encourage students to consider the character traits demonstrated by each of the highlighted leaders and use the information to build their individual position as a student leader.
The purpose of the unit will be to develop and expand the understanding of students on how courage, bravery and determination are key aspects of fulfilling a purpose or dream. Students will recognize the obstacles that individual Americans faced and the impact of their thoughts and beliefs on their ability to succeed in their endeavors.
As a result of this study unit, students should recognize that:
Students should have their novels in class this week - August 20th.
They should also have their binders with loose leaf ready to go for this class period.
LEARNING PLAN FOR THIS WEEK:
Students will discuss the main character of the novel - The Phantom Tollbooth - and analyze the personality traits/events that lead him to embark on his journey.
We will also be discussing the 10 Inventors Who Changed The World non-fiction text. We will spend time researching and discussing each invention and brainstorm ways to improve each one.
Students will begin research related to their own invention ideas after brainstorming together in class to narrow the options.
